October is National Physical Therapy Month

Happy National Physical Therapy Month! We celebrate and support the importance of physical therapy all year, but especially the month of October. We commend all of those in our industry that are passionate in transforming the lives of others. As physical therapists, we are ambassadors for physical therapy.

Sharon L. Dunn, PT, PhD and president of the American Physical Therapy Association recently stated in her president’s address that “America is in the midst of a devastating opioid epidemic, and physical therapy has been identified as part of the solution by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Surgeon General.” 1 This is an important aspect and benefit from embracing and seeking out physical therapy.  Please refer to our past blog on Better Pain Management for more information on this subject matter.

Chronic pain is any pain that lasts longer than the expected healing time. Physical therapists will help individuals understand their pain through education which in turn can help reduce one’s care needs.2 Physical therapy is a non-drug alternative treatment to manage pain.  Physical therapists work with individuals to help alleviate different types of pain such as low back, shoulder, hip, and knee pain to improve overall functioning. They will develop a personalized rehabilitative treatment plan to meet your needs and abilities.
