Mental Health Warnings

Mental Health Awareness

| Dr. Eva Norman

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, with the first week in June set aside for many online & community events to recognize mental health issues. Our society has become more and more aware of mental health issues and fewer stigmas are present for those diagnosed. However, mental illness is serious and real.

Reaching Out for Help

  • According to mentalhealth.net 1 in 5 people suffer from mental health issues
  • 50% of Americans need mental health help at some point in their life
  • Mental health, much like cancer, comes in stages. If you had cancer, would you hold off seeking help for 5 years, 10 years until it reached Stage 4 or would you get help NOW when you need it? CLICK HERE to read about the stages of mental health & know that stage 1 is when you should seek help; but help is available at any stage.
  • Your physical well being takes a toll when you are battling mental health issues too. Mental health issues are just as serious and can cause not only issues within your head & mind but with your body
  • Seeking help is the first step to taking control of your own mental well being
  • Afraid to Seek Help? – Take a free online mental health screening to help you determine where you stand and whether you should seek help (this is not a diagnosis tool but a tool to help you move towards the direction you need for mental health intervention)

Why Does Exercise Help Our Mental Health?

  • Atmosphere – Your surroundings can become a “cage” & having a chance to get outside of your everyday atmosphere, whether outdoors for a walk or in a gym to exercise, gives you stimulation that is different than your typical day to day grind
  • Your Body’s Natural Healing Powers – While dopamine is increased, so is the natural blood flow throughout your body. This blood flow gives you a feeling of invigoration as it increases the blood and oxygen to all of your vital organs
  • A Light At The End of The Tunnel – Having something to look forward to can help you get through the day, even if it’s a bad day
  • Meeting Others – You will find yourself being drawn into conversations with others and even short quick hellos with a smile can make your day seem better
  • A Healthy Body Helps Make A Healthy Mind – Taking care of your outer body will have you feeling better about yourself; in return your mindset will tend to be more positive

Live Your Life is ready to help you get started on a healthier lifestyle to Live Your Life STRONG IN MIND & HEALTH.
