Medicare Open EnrollmentIt’s that time of year when those who are on Medicare can make changes in their Medicare coverage. Medicare open enrollment runs from October 15 – December 7, 2015. During this time, you can make changes in your Part C & Part D coverage. On November 1, 2015 you can begin making changes in your Medicare Advantage coverage; which covers gaps in Parts A & B coverage.

It’s important to choose options that work best for you; including your Medicare Advantage coverage. Here’s a helpful page that offers assistance in finding the Medicare coverage that fits you best.

Helpful Tips for Medicare Open Enrollment

Below is a brief summary of what can be completed during the Medicare open enrollment period.

During Medicare Open Enrollment from October 15th – December 17th, you can:

  • Change from an Original Medicare Plan to a Medicare Advantage Plan
  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another
  • Enroll in a Medicare prescription drug (Part D) plan
  • Change Medicare prescription plans
  • Determine what you want in your health plan coverage & seek a corresponding plan; i.e., changing from one plan to another, adding on a Part D plan for prescription drugs, dropping a prescription drug plan or utilizing a Low Income Subsidized program.

Changes made during this period will take effect on January 1st of the corresponding ‘next’ year (for 2015 this means in 2016).

During Medicare Advantage Plan Disenrollment from January 1- February 14 you can:

  • Leave your Medicare Advantage Plan and enroll in the original Medicare plan
  • Join a Part D plan for prescription drugs, if you participate in original Medicare
