Vegan Month

| Melissa Weisenberger

Have you wanted to try a different food diet or routine? Have you tried to go vegetarian and it just didn’t work out for you? There are a growing interest and practice of going vegan and it could possibly be the diet you have been looking for!

Going vegan means that you eat foods that aren’t made from the use of animals whether it is eggs, milk, meat, etc. It also means that you don’t use products that are made from animals as well. Things like this could be mascara, lotions, clothing, etc.

“Only half of one percent of the USA population — or 1.62 million of us — is vegan.”1 That number seems so small, but it has become popular in the past couple years making this statistic significant. Many people feel like they need the protein and all the vitamins meat consist of, but as long as you make sure to take over-the-counter vitamins or put in substitute food items to get the nutrition pieces you would be missing from the meat.

How can you take part in Vegan Month? Great question! You can participate by doing one of the following:

  • Creating a meal party at work/home/etc where vegan-only items will be served
  • Sharing popular and healthy vegan recipes on social media for everyone to see
  • Creating a group for everyone to join and see different vegan ideas, tips and tricks
  • Create a meal plan for the whole week for your family
  • Start up a challenge for family and friends to see if they are able to go vegan for 30 days

Remember to use the hashtags #WorldVeganMonth and #WorldVeganDay on social media postings to celebrate with all the other vegans out there! There is also a pledge to take for going vegan on the Vegan Society web address listed below!
