Massage in generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It is practiced by massage therapists to treat clients by using touch to manipulate the muscles and other soft tissues of the body. Massage therapists relieve pain, help heal injuries, improve circulation, decrease stress, increase relaxation, and aid in the general wellness of clients. It can range from light stroking to deep pressure.

Styles used in massage therapy can range from long, smooth strokes to short, percussive strokes.

Swedish massage: Swedish massage is a soothing and a relaxing full body massage that works on all of the major muscle groups.
Deep massage: Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscles, tendons, and fascia, releasing painful knots and reducing overall aches and pains.
Sports massage: Sports massage is mostly done for athletes before, during, and after they participate in sporting events to release muscle tension and to recover from injuries
Trigger point massage: Trigger point massage releases knots and eases muscle tightness
Aromatherapy Massage: Massage therapists use oil or lotion that contain essential oils during the massage therapy
Shiatsu Massage: Shiatsu is a style of Japanese bodywork that involves manual pressure applied to specific points on the body
Pregnancy Massage: Massage therapists who are specialists in prenatal massage are able to relieve muscle and joint pain during pregnancy
Reflexology: Reflexology is a massage technique that puts pressure on various reflex points on the hands and feet

Massage therapy may help the body in many ways. Generally, people use massage therapy for both relaxation and wellbeing, or to address a specific complaint, such as pain or limited range of motion.
