This is the 3rd year that I have been able to be a part of the event through Live Your Life and it is always such a fun and an inspiring event.

The YWCA Triathlon is the only all-women triathlon in Minnesota; this year more than one thousand women came together to participate with over 30 relay teams. The sprint event included a 500-yard swim, followed by a 15.5-mile bike, and a 5K (3.1 mile) run. As part of the 3 person relay team, each participant took one portion of the event. This year Dr. Eva Norman completed the swim, I biked, and Alicia Bellefeuille tackled the run.

While this event is a great way to socialize with active and healthy women in the area, it is always fun to be competitive. This year, the Live Your Life relay team took home second place. Biking in the event annually ensures that I bike regularly during the summer. It also inspires me to be open to trying new things. I have never completed a full triathlon, but also never thought I would get my bike out to race. This event is filled with women who are completing a triathlon for the first time. The event focused on making all women feel confident and comfortable; they had a separate wave for those competing for the first time and also one composed of teams completing the event together.

I appreciate being a part of this year’s event given the YWCA focuses on empowering, and promoting the overall well-being of women. Many participants from all over the country registered for the event, ages including young girls to women over 80. The crowds on the sidelines, as well as all of the participants, cheered each other throughout the race. This event also reminds me of Live Your Life’s mission on focusing our overall well-being and living an active lifestyle. At Live Your Life, our employees target overall health and wellness through movement, but we also appreciate being together and are invested in our community.

While I have never completed a full triathlon, maybe someday I will. I am lucky to work with like-minded, active individuals. Have you thought about completing a triathlon?  Being able to transition from a swim to a run, and getting on a bike requires strength and endurance. There are numerous training programs throughout the metro to get you ready to tackle your first triathlon. Hope to see you at the starting line!
