Occupational therapy can be beneficial to people of all ages. Occupational therapists work with people who strive to participate as active members of society but are limited by physical, developmental, cognitive, or emotional difficulties.

Occupational therapists provide services in hospitals, schools, government, private practices, and industrial health. Generally, occupational therapists work with inter-professional teams to provide health-promoting services and work with a wide variety of people, including children in school settings, individuals recovering from an injury, and older adults with cognitive changes.1

Occupational therapy services include but not exclusive to:1,2

  • Mobility and Seating for individuals with developmental disorders, arthritis, and a spinal cord injury.
  • Pain Management following accidents, incorrect lifting,  carpal tunnel surgery, and fibromyalgia.
  • Energy conservation for individuals with heart conditions, multiple sclerosis, depression, stress, and a stroke.
  • Activities of Daily Living retraining for individuals trying to regain function.
  • Adaptations to activity for increased engagement.
  • Education to family, caregivers, and clients on a variety of health conditions and wellness topics.

Occupational therapy can help prevent:1

  • Unnecessary hospitalizations or premature nursing home admissions.
  • Work injuries due to poor workstation positioning and other strains.
  • Unemployment among people with a developmental disability or people with a mental illness.

By seeing an occupational therapist, individuals are able to participate more fully in the life they choose, or to prevent a disruption in their day-to-day living. Live Your Life Occupational therapists are well versed in helping you live your life to the best of your ability. Contact us today to schedule your appointment. Visit our website to learn more!
