Speech Therapy
Are you having difficulty with...
- Swallowing due to a new medical condition?
- Understanding speech?
- Pronouncing words accurately?
- Following instructions?
- Finding words to express your feelings?
- Reading and writing?
- Remembering names and recent events?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, we can help! Speech therapy is provided by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist and can benefit people of any age with a variety of impairments.
In the adult and geriatric population, speech therapy is provided for improvement of swallowing, communication (speech, language, voice) and cognition (memory and attention).
These impairments can arise from a variety of causes and require skilled intervention. The Speech Language Pathologist will conduct an evaluation, create a plan of care for management of the disorder, educate/train a patient and their family or make educated referrals for other disciplines.
Through therapy, a Speech Language Pathologist can greatly improve an individual’s quality of life in the following ways:
- Involvement in daily activities
- Performing job duties
- Socializing with friends and family
- Eating and drinking safely
- Recalling important information
Speech therapy may be recommended following a major medical event (e.g., stroke, fall etc…), during the progression of a degenerative disease, or following any changes in a person’s swallowing, communication and thinking abilities.
