Grilling is a great summer option! There are many ways to grill different foods; from appetizers to dessert, your entire meal can be prepared with the grill.

Off The Grill

Move over boring old hamburgers and hot dogs! Make room for some flavorful dishes.

Main Dish/Meat

  • Meats – marinating or using seasonings created for the grill can add plenty of flavor to your meats.
    • Chicken – marinate in salad dressings, balsamic vinegar, or prepared marinating packets for a few hours in the refrigerator.
    • Seafood – amazing off the grill, seafood cooks quickly. Use these Top 10 Fish Recipes on Taste of Home for a great meal.
    • Pork – a flavorful way to grill pork is with balsamic vinegar, creating a light glaze over it. Try using maple butter or other infused butters to create flavor and moisture.

Vegetables as a Side Dish/Main Dish

Grilling vegetables is quick and easy. Grilling seems to bring out flavor like you’ve never tasted before; use these “techniques” for amazing results. Veggies are great as a main dish, especially in the summer when produce is fresh and plentiful.

  • Corn on the Cob – try these great ideas of grilling your cobs of corn, including learning how to grill cobs without husking.
  • Grilled Peppers and Onions – grill onions and peppers inside foil or directly on the grill. Grill until caramelized to serve over meat or as a side dish.
  • Grilled Tomatoes – cutting cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes tend to be less messy. Grill them skin side down on the grill or inside foil.
  • Grilled Sweet Potatoes – already sweet and full of vitamins and nutrients; you can grill them in strips, cubes, or halves. It is best if you par-boil or microwave the potatoes to reduce grill time.

Grilled Desserts

What is life without dessert? Keep your desserts full of flavor while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Here are some delicious recipes from Rodale’s Organic Life for grilling fruits.

  • Grilled Watermelon – yes, you can grill watermelon and it’s amazing! Once again balsamic vinegar adds a touch of savory to the sweetness of the watermelon.
  • Grilled Apple – all the flavor of apple pie without the calories. Simply sprinkle cinnamon with a little sugar on top of the apple slices. The end result tastes like an apple pie.

Whatever you decide to grill this summer, take the heat out of the kitchen! Use skewers to create healthy kabobs for dinner or dessert.
