June is National Safety Month.  Each year in the month of June, the National Safety Council (NSC) spreads awareness through their focus on reducing the causes of injury both in the home and at work.  We would like to join the NSC in promoting their “staysafeforLife”1 campaign.

The NSC mission: “The National Safety Council saves lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the roads through leadership, research, education and advocacy.”2

According to Injury Facts 2016, approximately 136,053 individuals died from unintentional-injury-related deaths in the year of 2014.3

Below is a list of leading causes of unintentional injuries and deaths:

  • Poisoning
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Falls
  • Choking and suffocation
  • Drowning
  • Fire and burns
  • Environmental and natural incidents

In years past, motor vehicle accidents were the leading cause of unintentional injury and death in our communities.  Currently, poisoning is now the number one cause of accidental injuries and deaths.  A critical key component included within this category is driven by prescription drug overdose.3

Each one of us can make a positive impact on staying safe for life.  You can go online for a Free NSC First Aid, CPR & AED Online course, if you register by June 12th.  Click on new student, and then follow the online instructions.  There is a time frame in which the test must be completed by.1   You can also download information and find upcoming safety events through this website.

Employers can join the safety journey also, by going to NSC! On this site, you will learn about safety excellence in the workplace along with available tools and resources.  For more information on workplace safety, another resource is the Occupational Safety and Hazard Association (OSHA).  This agency will work cooperatively with employers to prevent injuries and illness in the workplace. OSHA has a variety of programs available for improving workplace safety.4

At Live your LifeTM we provide a wide range of services to help keep individuals safe in their home. We also keep employees safe in the workplace through corporate wellness and transfer and body mechanics training.  We offer physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, personal training, acupuncture, massage therapy, health coaching along with dietary services.

Live Your Life by staying safe today!
